In Search of My Ancestors at Ellis Island

Since we were unable to get onto Ellis Island on Saturday due to a power outage, we made a trip back early today. It has been an ongoing project searching for my ancestors. Several years back, I was able to locate and obtain a copy of the ship manifest that my great-grandfather came on from Poland. However, since my great-grandmother and her family came prior to the opening of Ellis Island, there were no records to be found. In my visit to the island, I learned that the Castle Garden, the fort that we visited on Saturday, has their own set of records. I will have to continue my search when I return home.

We were invited to take part in an opening night party on 42nd Street at MT's...we jumped at the opportunity. See who we bumped into...

It would have not been an authentic trip to New York City without taking in a play on 42nd Street. We went to the matinee show of Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam Theater. It was phenomenol!

After the play, we had dinner at Sardi's Restaurant, in the heart of the Theater District, where they have been for the past 82 years. We were early for dinner, so we walked upstairs to the bar to have a cocktail. When it was time for dinner, we were seated among Whoopi Goldberg, Rogers & Hammerstein, Henry Winkler, as well as hundreds of other stars! The main dining room walls are covered with caricatures of show-business celebrities. A true tourist trap, but not a place to miss, even if it's just for a drink.
