We also had an interesting tour of the Aegean Martime Museum featuring collections of model ships from the pre-Minoan period through the 19th century. http://greece.travelkey.eu/cyclades/myk/aegean/museum1.shtml
Our tour guide told us the story regarding the pelicans on Mykonos. Petros the Pelican is the mascot of the island. The story is that Petros was left behind when a group of migrating birds passed the island in the 1950’s. Petros was too exhausted to fly with his friends. Fisherman found him and nursed him back to health. The original Petros has passed but the locals keep replacing him with different pelicans to continue the story. The current version is a very large bird. The pelicans are very friendly and definitely not camera-shy. This pelican was enjoying water from the fountain, including a nice shower.
We set sail at 1730 for Rhodes!
