Stockholm has close to 100 museums covering every single subject there is. One would need several weeks or even months in Stockholm to visit each one. With the short time we had, we knew we had to visit the famous Vasa Museet (The Vasa Museum).
On August 10, 1628, the Vasa set sail on her maiden voyage and sank right in the Stockholm harbor. The wreck was salvaged in 1961 after being 333 years under the sea. The war ship is 95% intact after a very painstaking renovation.
The museum opened in 1990, less than one nautical mile from the disaster site.
